Mission

Our mission is to be the reference point in the field of natural and structural hazard monitoring, providing our Clients with "turnkey" and personalized products and services, the result of the best skills and advanced technologies, particularly employing radar technologies.

Company

LISALAB, a brand of Ellegi s.r.l., produces synthetic aperture interferometric radar with a ground-based platform (GBInSAR or TInSAR), develops systems, and provides services for monitoring and managing, natural hazards, and infrastructure such as bridges, dams, viaducts, and even historical buildings.

Established in 2003 as a start-up of the Joint Research Centre of the European Union in Ispra (VA), it aimed to exploit and commercially develop LiSA technology. This technology originated from over a decade of research on synthetic aperture radar conducted by the JRC’s Citizen Protection and Security Unit.
The European Commission, through the European Centre for Innovation and Spin-Off project, enabled the company’s creation and granted a license for the commercial exploitation of this technology.
The business idea on which LISALAB is based received recognition from the Province of Milan as the best innovative idea among 234 projects presented during its presentation.

Since then, the company has offered its monitoring products and services throughout the world, both in normal operations and in crisis and emergency situations. For example, monitoring the stability of the “Sciara del Fuoco” during the Stromboli emergency started in December 2002 or the emergency monitoring of the Marmolada glacier immediately after its sudden collapse on July 3, 2022.

People

Davide Leva, aerospace engineer at the Politecnico di Milano, has been involved since 1997 in the integral development and implementation of LiSA components and operations at the JRC in Ispra. In 2003, he proposed transforming the technological results achieved into a marketable product, giving birth to LISALAB. As President, CEO, and technical manager, he holds a Ph.D. in Electronic Systems Engineering on “Civil Protection Applications of SAR Interferometric Techniques with Ground-Based Systems” from the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications at the University of Florence. He has over 50 scientific publications on GBInSAR radar and their applications and holds three patents related to GBInSAR.

Carlo Rivolta, mechanical engineer at the Politecnico di Milano and MBA from the Bocconi University Business School in Milan, is a member of the Board of Directors and CEO. In the early 2000s, he was involved in technology transfer and the creation of innovative startups. Since 2003, he has been responsible for the operations of LISALAB and the execution of monitoring services.

He has about fifteen scientific publications on GBInSAR radar and their applications in civil protection and natural hazard monitoring.
